OWINGS MILLS Quinnen Williams Jersey , Md. (AP) — Eric DeCosta watched and waited for much of the second day of the NFL draft. And then finally, it was his time. After selecting sack specialist Jaylon Ferguson of Louisiana Tech with the 85th overall pick Friday night, DeCosta handed his other third-round pick and two sixth-round choices to Minnesota to move up nine notches in the third round. With the 93rd overall selection, he snagged Notre Dame wide receiver Miles Boykin. With his first three picks as successor to Ozzie Newsome, DeCosta has fortified the receiving corps — sure-handed Marquise Brown of Oklahoma was taken in the first round — and addressed another pressing need.Baltimore had a shortage of players who could pressure the quarterback after losing Terrell Suggs and Za’darius Smith to free agency. Ferguson had a nation-leading 17 ½ sacks as a senior and an NCAA-record 45 sacks over four seasons, breaking Suggs’ record.“He’s a guy whose skill set really fits who we are as a defense,” DeCosta said. “Fills a big hole for us.”The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Ferguson also forced eight fumbles and recovered four over 51 games at Tech.Baltimore was without a second-round pick, having traded that to Philadelphia last year to take quarterback Lamar Jackson in the first round. So DeCosta had to watch 52 picks drop off the board before the Ravens finally got on the clock late in the third round, over 3 1/2 hours after the session began.“It was really a long day. It was frustrating for me,” DeCosta said. “I actually got up and walked out a few times and paced just because we weren’t picking for so long. Not having a second-round pick is challenge.”The payoff was Ferguson and the 6-4, 220-pound Boykin http://www.cowboyscheapauthenticstore.com/trysten-hill-jersey-cheap , a strong player very capable of blocking downfield.“A size-speed receiver with really tremendous physical gifts,” DeCosta said. “Very physical to the football. Just a big man.”Although Boykin hoped to go earlier in the draft, he appreciated that the Ravens sacrificed two picks to get him.“That just shows they have all the faith in the world in me,” Boykin said. The diminutive Brown is expected to be a deep threat for Jackson, but offensive coordinator Greg Roman expects the newcomer to play a variety of roles.“We can play him inside, outside, short, deep, all kinds of things,” Roman said. “We’re really only limited by our imagination.”The 5-9, 170-pound Brown will also be asked to block, especially when the elusive Jackson slips out of the pocket and heads downfield.“I’ve had to block since I was a young kid Jachai Polite Jersey ,” Brown said. “I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t able to get it done in the run game.”Brown’s cousin, standout receiver Antonio Brown, knows all about the Ravens from his involvement in the Pittsburgh-Baltimore rivalry.“He said this is a great place to be, that I’ll love it,” Marquise said.Ravens coach John Harbaugh has no problem with DeCosta taking two wide receivers over the first three selections, in part because each adds different skills to the mix.“Those two guys are different,” Harbaugh said, “but they bring speed, they bring playmaking.”A husky receiver who can block and get open in the middle, and another who get downfield in an instant. What’s not to like?“To have one of each was probably the ideal, and to have it fall that way is great,” Harbaugh said. With Minnesota getting two of the Ravens’ three sixth-round picks Chuma Edoga Jersey , the Ravens enter Saturday’s final day with two picks in the fourth round, one in the fifth and one in the sixth.DeCosta worked under Newsome for more than two decades, yet he’s still learning the finer points of the job. He now knows that sitting out an entire round is no fun.“I ate a lot more today, just pacing the hallways and gathering food,” DeCosta said. “I think it’s safe to say we’re not going to trade our second-round pick anytime soon.” Houston Astros manager AJ Hinch watched his team load the bases in front of hot-hitting Evan Gattis, and all he wanted was the big designated hitter to send a drive to the outfield and keep the line moving.
Hinch had to settle for one that cleared the fence.
Cleared the bases, too.
Gattis crushed a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning Friday night, Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa also went deep, and the Astros rolled past the Kansas City Royals 7-3 for their ninth straight win.
”We’re shaking hands after a lot of his at-bats,” Hinch said of Gattis, who has five homers in the first eight games of the Astros’ road trip. ”When guys are hot, there’s a ton of energy and a ton of fun.”
Charlie Morton (8-1) overcame another bout of wildness Trevon Wesco Jersey , at one point walking three straight batters, to last six innings for Houston. He allowed four hits and four walks while striking out nine.
Brad Peacock, Tony Sipp and Collin McHugh each contributed a scoreless inning in relief to wrap up the Astros’ latest win. All but one during their streak has come away from Minute Maid Park.
”I think our guys are just methodically going through their days,” Hinch said. ”This is a long road trip and it’s a lot more fun when you’re winning.”
The Royals, meanwhile, have lost four straight and 10 of 11.
Jakob Junis (5-7) served up all three Houston homers, getting tagged for six runs on seven hits and a walk. It was his fourth straight loss, his last win coming against the New York Yankees on May 18.
”We were putting some really good swings on it. We were hitting some balls hard,” Morton said with a grin. ”Really, I was just waiting for the dam to break.”
The Royals gave Junis some support early, jumping ahead 2-0 in the third on a two-out double by Mike Moustakas. It was a buoying at-bat considering the meek-hitting Kansas City lineup managed a single run in getting swept by Cincinnati during a two-game set this week.
It appeared the lead might stand, too Shareef Miller Jersey , the way Junis breezed through the first three innings.
Bregman changed all that with his ninth homer of the season, a shot that just skirted the left-field foul pole. Correa added his 455-foot home run two batters later to tie the game.
Morton’s wildness allowed the Royals to regain the lead in the fifth, but Junis coughed it back up in the sixth. He gave up three straight one-out singles to load the bases for Gattis, whose soaring, 405-foot grand slam was the second of his career and third by the Astros this season.
It was also the second slam permitted by the Royals in their last two games.
”I was hoping we would get either a flyout or a mishit. I didn’t think I left it right over the plate,” Junis said. ”I thought it was up and away. He just put a good swing on it.”
Houston recalled 3B Tyler White from Triple-A Fresno and placed LHP Reymin Guduan on the paternity leave list. White was hitting .338 with 13 homers and a .444 on-base percentage, the second-highest in all of Triple-A. Guduan can miss no more than three games while on the paternity list.
Kansas City selected the contract of RHP Brandon Maurer from Triple-A Omaha and optioned RHP Jason Adam to the same club. Maurer was 0-2 with a 12.46 ERA for the Royals before he was sent outright to the minor league club on May 3. He’s worked 11 straight scoreless appearances at Omaha.
Astros RHP Joe Smith (elbow inflammation) rejoined the team, and Hinch said the reliever is ”pain free and the next step is to initiate a throwing program.” That could happen by the end of the weekend.
Royals OF Jorge Soler left after stumbling out of the batter’s box in the sixth. He was taken for X-rays that revealed a broken left foot. ”It will be awhile when your feet are hurt,” Royals manager Ned Yost said. ”They’re going to give it a CT scan or whatever. We’ll have a better idea. X-rays showed a positive break. We don’t think it’s a surgical thing right now. The CT scan will give us more of a look.”
Struggling LHP Dallas Keuchel (3-8, 4.45 ERA) starts for the Astros and LHP Danny Duffy (3-6, 5.28) gets the nod for the Royals for a Saturday matinee with temperatures expected to approach triple digits.
FLOWERY BRANCH Hakeem Butler Jersey , Ga. (AP) — of organized team activities has been Devonta Freeman’s return to the field.“It’s been a long time,” said coach Dan Quinn.Freeman looked explosive in Thursday’s practice, the first OTAs session open to reporters. Having Freeman again flash his dual-threat skills at running back is good news for the Falcons’ hopes of returning to the playoffs.Knee and groin injuries limited Freeman to only two games last season . The Falcons had a long list of season-ending injuries, including both safeties and both guards, but losing Freeman had perhaps the biggest impact on the team’s fall to a 7-9 finish.Without Freeman, the Falcons’ ground game was stagnant , ranking only 27th in the league. The Falcons’ other top running back, Tevin Coleman http://www.bengalscheapstore.com/jonah-williams-jersey-cheap , signed with San Francisco as a free agent, so it was important to see Freeman in his No. 24 red jersey lining up beside quarterback Matt Ryan this week.“It’s awesome,” Ryan said. “Free is such a dynamic player. … He looks great.”The Falcons are still waiting for starting safeties Ricardo Allen (torn Achilles tendon) and Keanu Neal (knee) to complete their comebacks from 2018 injuries. Both worked on a side field with trainers but could be ready for training camp.Freeman, 27, emerged with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2015 and 2016. He had a combined 127 catches those two years, making him even more valuable.Freeman has struggled to stay on the field since signing a five-year, $41.25 million contract before the 2017 season. At the time it was the NFL’s richest contract for a running back. The deal’s total value still ranks third for his position Drew Sample Jersey , behind Todd Gurley ($57.5 million) and Le’Veon Bell ($52.5 million). The big contract brought great expectations, making two straight years of injury woes even more frustrating. He missed two games in 2017 following his second concussion of the year, including one in the preseason, and also was slowed by a knee injury. He was limited to 68 yards rushing in two games in 2018.Freeman’s trademark smile was back on Thursday, when he said the joy in football has returned.“It felt good just to be out here running around and having fun,” he said. “This is fun. Just having fun running around brought back memories of when I was a kid, playing in the middle of the field. It was fun.”Football wasn’t fun for Freeman last season. He suffered a bruised right knee in the season-opening loss at Philadelphia, forcing him to miss three games. Then he landed on injured reserve with the groin injury.“It was tough http://www.bengalscheapstore.com/germaine-pratt-jersey-cheap ,” Freeman said. “At the time I couldn’t see the blessing that God had for me. But it was definitely tough not being able to go out there and compete and battle with my brothers. Just seeing all those guys, every time I watched a game, it was like ‘Man, that was a missed opportunity for me.’ I definitely took it to heart. I learned a lot from it, though.”Freeman has not been restricted this week but said “I’m still getting better.”Freeman’s grin made his coach also smile.“It’s been awesome having Free back on the field and be back to having him look like himself,” Quinn said, adding “to see the energy that he brings has been good.”NOTES: OTAs are voluntary. Among players not participating: WR Julio Jones, DT Grady Jarrett Ryan Finley Jersey , OLB Vic Beasley Jr. and LB Deion Jones. Quinn said he has been in contact with each of the four. He said Julio Jones and Deion Jones “are still working on some rehab.” He said Beasley is training on his own and is expected by minicamp. Jarrett signed his $15.209 million franchise tag which prevented him from signing elsewhere as a free agent. He set career highs with six sacks and three forced fumbles last season. Julio Jones missed OTAs and the mandatory minicamp last year before reporting for training camp with a promise from the team his contract would be reworked this year. Those talks are ongoing. In 2010, the Philadelphia Eagles had established a very talented group of core players. However, they weren't quite good enough to take the step to "elite" status. They went out in the wild card game after posting a solid 10-win season, but it felt like they had reached their limit. With their quarterback nearing the end of his career, their window appeared to be closing. In a desperate attempt to take the team to the next level, they went on an insane free agent spending spree. They loaded up the roster talent, in addition to the skilled athletes they already had. Things looked highly promising. It looked like a roster that could finally deliver a Super Bowl to a city that desperately desired one. Many analysts proclaimed the team the “winner” of the off season (a title that is almost always bad, ironically) and they insanely became favorites to make a deep playoff run.The hype was completely off the rails and it resulted in the roster being labeled a "dream team" by Vince Young http://www.bengalscheapstore.com/renell-wren-jersey-cheap , despite the fact that they had never played a game together. This took place just five years ago, but it feels like a lifetime. In this article, we'll take a look at what has happened to their core players as well as their prized acquisitions and why the team quickly became a laughing stock.
Brandon Belt and Joe Panik drove in two runs each Gary Jennings Jr. Jersey , Hunter Pence had a pinch-hit, two-run double, and the Giants completed a three-game sweep with a 9-6 victory over the division-leading Arizona Diamondbacks. It was San Francisco’s seventh win in eight games and their first sweep of the Diamondbacks since September of 2016. San Francisco moved into a second-place tie at 2 1/2 games behind Arizona for the first time since June 10.
A four-run fifth inning highlighted by Pence’s double off reliever Silvino Bracho gave the Giants an 8-3 lead. Cory Gearrin (1-1) got one out in the fourth inning to earn the win in relief of starter Derek Holland.
Afterward, manager Bruce Bochy praised the veteran Pence – who is primarily a bench player at present – for accepting his role.
”He is our spiritual leader. I know his role has changed and he has handled it so well. This is a little bit of a change for him and it is not easy,” Bochy said. ”He has a great attitude and just wants to help the club win.”
The Giants tagged starter Zack Godley (9-6) for seven runs on nine hits in four-plus innings, ending his four-game winning streak. But Holland didn’t make it out of the fourth, chased after loading the bases with an intentional walk with San Francisco leading 4-3.
The Diamondbacks couldn’t take advantage, as Belt raced well beyond the first base bag into shallow right field to throw out Christian Walker at first and end the inning.
”We feel like we are in a good rhythm,” Pence said. ”It’s part of baseball and we feel like we are working on all cylinders and that is definitely momentum.”
Holland allowed three runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Godley’s five walks were the second most he’s issued in a start this season.
”I couldn’t locate certain pitches and they took advantage of that,” Godley said. ”They’re swinging the bat really well right now Ugo Amadi Jersey , one through nine.”
Arizona rallied with two runs in the seventh on Paul Goldschmidt’s 18th home run of the season, and Jarrod Dyson became the eighth player in team history to record at least two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases in a game.
The Diamondbacks brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth with two outs, but Will Smith struck out Jake Lamb for Smith’s second save.
”They kicked our butts. They came in here and beat us, straight up,” Lamb said.
WALKER IN LEFT
Walker, normally a first baseman, started Sunday in left field for the first time in his 44-game major league career.
To help provide coverage for the bullpen amid a long stretch without a day off, Arizona called up Bracho from Triple-A Reno before Sunday’s game. Pitcher Jimmy Sherfy was sent back to Reno. Bracho has been recalled five times this season.
FIRST PITCH FOR FIRST PICK
Recently drafted Phoenix Suns big man Deandre Ayton, the first overall pick in June’s NBA Draft Devin White Jersey , threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Sunday’s game.
Giants: 3B Pablo Sandoval was hit by a pitch in the right elbow in the third inning and left the game before the bottom of the inning. X-rays were negative and the injury was announced as a deep bruise, with Sandoval’s status day to day. … 3B Evan Longoria is about a week away from taking some swings as he works his way back from a broken left hand, Bochy said. … RHP Jeff Samardzija’s final rehab start for Triple- A Sacramento is set for Monday and he is expected to pitch five or six innings with around 90 pitches.
Diamondbacks: INF Ketel Marte was held out after suffering a right leg cramp in Saturday’s game. Manager Torey Lovullo said he felt the team ”dodged a bullet” as far a more serious injury.
Giants: LHP Madison Bumgarner (1-2) is set for his sixth start of the season in the series opener against the Colorado Rockies on Monday in Denver.
Diamondbacks: LHP Robbie Ray (3-0) is set to face the St. Louis Cardinals in the series opener at Chase Field on Monday.
An estimated 2 million people celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles’ long-awaited first Super Bowl win will descend on the city Thursday as the Vince Lombardi trophy is paraded through five miles of jubilant fans.
Democratic Mayor Jim Kenney called on them to celebrate with passion and pride and warned the small ”knucklehead contingent” that caused trouble after Sunday’s 41-33 win over the New England Patriots to stay away.
Officials revealed plans for the parade on Tuesday, saying fans should expect some dramatic surprises, jumbotrons, free subway rides and 850 portable toilets.
Here’s a look at some of the parade details:
The team will leave the stadium where the Eagles play in south Philadelphia around 11 a.m., head up Broad Street to City Hall, and along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway before ending up at the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s famous ”Rocky” steps.
Fourteen jumbotron screens will dot the route to ensure that revelers don’t miss any of the festivities. Revelers will be entitled to one free Bud Light at about two dozen bars as the beer maker comes through on a promise made to Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson before the season.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority is offering free service on its two major subway lines, while its commuter lines from the suburbs will run only inbound service in the morning.
Kenney warned people not to drive into the city as dozens of streets will be closed and heavy traffic delays are expected. The city will also enforce a long list of temporary parking restrictions and bicycle routes around the parade will also be inaccessible.
Kenney said he expects Thursday morning’s parade crowd to be calmer than the one that included some people who shattered storefront windows, overturned a car L.J. Collier Jersey , ate horse feces, collapsed a hotel’s awning, hit the city’s police commissioner in the head with a beer bottle, toppled light poles and set off fireworks after the Eagles’ win on Sunday night.
He called that small group of troublemakers ”the knucklehead contingent” and told them to stay home. He said alcoholic beverages would be confiscated, but officials didn’t release any details on how they would limit open containers when faced with such a massive crowd.
”I think it will be a different tenor, a different element,” Kenney said without noting the city’s Wing Bowl and Mummers Parade, where it is common for heavy drinking to start before sunrise.
Well folks Will Grier Jersey , the 2015 NFL season is upon us and the action is underway. reaching the Super Bowl and winning it. Unfortunately, not every NFL team was able to improve this offseason and will inevitably be watching the big game on a TV.There were a lot of changes this offseason starting with the NFL Draft and ending with a long Free Agency period in which teams were able to sign players for the roster. Preseason is over and final rosters are set for the season. But just like every year in the NFL, there are always teams that did not improve and will not be near the playoffs let alone a Super Bowl in 2016.Right now, there are still 13 teams in the NFL that have never won a Super Bowl. However, not all of those teams will be in this top 10, as teams like the Minnesota Vikings http://www.pantherscheapshop.com/cheap-authentic-christian-miller-jersey , Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills seem to be making some strides and aren't as far off as some of these teams. This article is dedicated to the teams on the outside looking in with a long way to go for a return to success in the NFL. These are teams that lost key pieces, do not have a franchise quarterback, have a rookie (franchise) quarterback, rebuilding teams, etc. Not all of them are bad teams, but they are still not ready for prime time. HOUSTON (AP) — DeAndre Hopkins says he arrived to Houston’s game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday in a No. 7 jersey bearing the hashtag “IMWITHKAP” to support Colin Kaepernick and his protests of social and racial injustice because: “he’s standing up for what’s right.”Hopkins was photographed entering the stadium in the black jersey with white lettering and posted the photograph on social media before the game with an emoji of a hand making a peace sign and the word “love.”When asked why he wore the jersey during a news conference after the game Jordan Scarlett Jersey , Hopkins would only say it was because “That’s my homie.” But the star receiver later discussed his motivation for the clothing choice to The Associated Press.Kaepernick created controversy in 2016 when he began kneeling during the national anthem as a way to protest police brutality and social and racial injustice in America. He opted out of his contract after the end of that season and hasn’t been able to get a job in the NFL since. He’s suing the league for collusion.“I support his movement and everything that he’s doing,” Hopkins told The AP. “In my eyes he’s a legend. In a lot of people’s eyes he’s a legend. He’s standing up for what’s right.”Hopkins said he knows a lot of people criticize Kaepernick, but he wouldn’t let that deter him from vocally supporting the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.“There’s going to be negative things said about him, but I just want to let him know that a lot of people support him, not just (me), but my family Jonah Williams Jersey , other people on this team,” Hopkins said. “Some people won’t stand up and speak out and say they support him because of what might come behind that. But I know that after this life is done I stood up for something that’s right, not just for where I’m at right now but for people after me.”Kaepernick retweeted Hopkins’ tweet of the picture and wrote: “Appreciate love from one of the best … thank you brother!!!”Hopkins believes it’s “very unfair” that Kaepernick can’t get another NFL job, and exaggerated the number of quarterbacks he played with in Houston before the Texans drafted Deshaun Watson last year to illustrate his point on the subject.“He can still play,” Hopkins said. “I know he can still play … he can win games for an NFL team. I’ve played with dozens of quarterbacks and I can honestly say that I think he belongs in this league.”Hopkins had seven receptions for 91 yards Sunday as the Texans beat the Cleveland Browns 29-13 to extend their franchise-record winning streak to nine games.
He figured out how to deploy it more effectively as an assistant coach. So with the Indianapolis Colts in an offensive funk Sunday http://www.seattleseahawksteamonline.com/marquise-blair-jersey , the first-year coach changed gears. He cranked up the tempo, wore down Houston’s defense and watched the Colts rebound from a 5½-quarter scoring drought to earn a critical road victory.“We know it’s a weapon, we know it’s an effective weapon, especially with the quarterback we have,” Reich said, referring to Andrew Luck.“To know that we can pull that tool out, that weapon out and use it in the proper way when we need it. I just think it’s really the right way to do it.”Indy (7-6) desperately needed a switch against the Texans — after their playoff chances took a major hit the previous week when Luck endured the first shutout of his career. It looked as if the Texans (9-4), winners of nine straight, might do it again when they held the Colts scoreless on their first four possessions. But then Reich threw a change-up that got Luck and his teammates back in sync. They scored three times in the final 7½ minutes of the first half, matched the Texans’ early second-half score and never trailed again. The victory allowed Indy to move into a four-way tie with Baltimore, Miami and division rival Tennessee for the AFC’s sixth and final playoff spot and gave them some needed momentum heading into back-to-back home games against Dallas and the New York Giants. The Colts close out the regular season at Tennessee. And with Luck rolling http://www.seattleseahawksteamonline.com/cody-barton-jersey , the possibility of ending a three-year postseason absence is a real possibility. Indy already has beaten the Titans and Dolphins, potential tiebreakers, even though nobody around the Colts’ complex dare discuss anything other than this weekend’s showdown against the NFC East-leading Cowboys.“Looking forward to keeping that same mindset and attitude coming back home to Lucas Oil (Stadium) against another hot team in the Dallas Cowboys,” Reich said Monday. “So it will be a good test for us.”What exactly the Cowboys will see is anybody’s guess.Luck threw two more touchdown passes in Houston, giving him 34 — second in the league to Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes (43). T.Y. Hilton caught nine passes for 199 yards, giving the Colts the deep threat they lacked in Jacksonville. Eric Ebron caught another TD pass, his 12th of the season and one more than Dallas Clark’s franchise single-season record for a tight end.But the lingering question is whether Reich intends to continue relying on the no-huddle offense that kept the Texans’ defense on its heels?“Believe me, I love the no-huddle, I have done the no-huddle for years as a player and as a coach. Even when I was here before with Peyton (Manning), we did it as well as anyone could do it,” Reich said.“We did a lot of really good things http://www.seattleseahawksteamonline.com/phil-haynes-jersey , but ultimately we just think that the best formula is to be multiple, to use all your personnel and to create some schematic advantages that you can do by huddling.”The Colts certainly have shown they can exploit mismatches.Luck has had more success than anyone in the league connecting with tight ends. Ebron is one of five guys to play the position for Indy this season and has produced a career-best season by finally living up to the billing of his first-round pedigree.Marlon Mack has, at times, given the Colts a solid ground game and Hilton remains a reliable threat in whatever he is asked to do.While the combination seems perfectly suited to cranking up the tempo as Sunday’s game demonstrated, Reich believes the Colts will be better off employing it at their discretion.“When you go no-huddle, T.Y. ends up at the same position all the time,” Reich said. “By not being exclusively no-huddle we can move guys around in positions. We can put T.Y. where we want to, we can switch personnel groups, we can put offensive linemen in at tight end to throw deep play-action shots that we put in, to have an extra offensive lineman in to do some stuff in the running game.” NEW YORK (AP) — The Jets have agreed to terms with Bilal Powell, bringing back the franchise’s 10th-leading rusher after a neck injury cut short his season last year. The 30-year-old Powell worked out for New York on Friday and appears to have proven he is healthy. He had surgery to repair a bulging disk in his neck after he was hurt during a 2-yard run late in the second quarter of New York’s 37-17 loss to Minnesota on Oct. 21. Powell spent the rest of the season on injured reserve and his playing career was uncertain.Powell has 3 http://www.tampabaybuccaneersteamonline.com/mike-edwards-jersey ,446 yards rushing in eight seasons with the Jets, 1 yard behind Adrian Murrell for ninth on the team’s career list. He was drafted in the fourth round out of Louisville in 2011 and has been a dual-threat presence out of the backfield, catching 204 passes for 1,567 yards and five touchdowns.Powell joins a crowded Jets backfield that includes Le’Veon Bell, Ty Montgomery, Elijah McGuire, Trenton Cannon and De’Angelo Henderson.
Looking for a pass rusher to bookend with Pro Bowler Myles Garrett Ugo Amadi Jersey , Cleveland has agreed to acquire defensive end Olivier Vernon from the New York Giants in exchange for guard Kevin Zeitler, a person familiar with the deal told the Associated Press. The teams are also swapping draft picks, with the Browns getting No. 132 for pick No. 155, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the teams have not announced the trade. The trade won’t become official until 4 p.m. on March 13, the start of free agency and the NFL’s calendar year. The 28-year-old Vernon started 39 games over three seasons with the Giants. He’ll give the Browns needed depth and experience up front. Vernon has 51 sacks in seven seasons, including seven last year when he was named a Pro Bowler in New York. Vernon, who has had some injury issues Dwayne Haskins Jersey , spent his first four with the Miami Dolphins.Vernon’s arrival as another edge rusher could free up Garrett from double teams and allow the Browns to focus on a defensive tackle in the draft. There is depth at that position in this year’s class, and Cleveland could land one with the No. 17 overall pick.Vernon is set to make $15.5 million in each of the two remaining years on his contract.Zeitler just completed his second season with the Browns, who signed him to a five-year, $60 million deal as a free agent in 2017 after five seasons with Cincinnati. The 29-year-old was one of Cleveland’s best linemen last season, helping anchor the group following Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas‘ retirement.Zeitler’s spot will likely be filled by Austin Corbett, a second-round pick last season. Zeitler joins an underperforming line in New York that he should upgrade significantly. The Giants struggled mightily to protect Eli Manning last season, allowing 47 sacks. But running back Saquon Barkley was the league’s Offensive Rookie of the Year despite playing behind an inconsistent unit.Zeitler should vastly improve that group David Long Jersey , although New York could look to draft offensive linemen next month. But his addition allows the Giants to focus their first-round spot, sixth overall, on other needs, perhaps even on a quarterback.New York also re-signed center Jon Hilapio, who was an exclusive-rights free agent and is projected to be a starter in 2019.Halapio started the first two games of 2018 before he broke his right leg and ankle and underwent surgery, missing the rest of the season. The trade for Vernon is the second major move on the eve of free agency by Browns general manager John Dorsey. He released veteran linebacker Jamie Collins earlier this week.NOTES: The Browns tendered restricted free agent wide receiver Rashard Higgins and two exclusive rights free agents: defensive tackle Trevon Coley and defensive back Jermaine Whitehead. A fifth-round pick in 2016 by Cleveland, Higgins had a breakout season in 2018 with 39 catches for 572 yards and four touchdowns. If Higgins agrees to a deal with another team http://www.losangelesramsteamonline.com/bobby-evans-jersey , the Browns can match it. If they decline, the Browns would get a fifth-round pick as compensation. Coley has started 29 games over the past two seasons. Whitehead played only special teams in seven games after being claimed on waivers from Green Bay. Steve Pearce has joined the Boston Red Sox and doubled in his first at-bat as the cleanup hitter for the team with the best record in the majors.
Pearce doubled in the second inning Friday night on the first pitch he saw from CC Sabathia at Yankee Stadium. Pearce played first base against New York.
The Red Sox got the 35-year-old Pearce and cash on Thursday from Toronto for minor league infielder Santiago Espinal.
Pearce has a career average of .255 and 83 career home runs and 268 RBIs. He was hitting .291 with four homers and 16 RBIs for the Blue Jays. The Red Sox are his seventh team, including all five in the AL East.
Boston manager Alex Cora said Pearce gives the team more options at first base, where Mitch Moreland is having a good season, and as a designated hitter.
Pearce’s cost to the Red Sox is $1.5 million. The Blue Jays will give Boston $1,658,602 to cover part of the $3 Greg Gaines Jersey ,158,602 remaining in his $6.25 million salary.
ENGLEWOOD http://www.jetsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jachai-polite-jersey , Colo. (AP) — his offensive linemen this week that Von Miller anticipates the snap as well as any pass rusher in the NFL.“Oh yeah, you see that a lot, man. That’s what he gets guys (on). He uses that to his advantage because a lot of guys panic as far as getting back,” said Browns right tackle Chris Hubbard, who will try to keep the Broncos‘ star linebacker off quarterback Baker Mayfield this weekend. The Browns (5-7-1) meet the Broncos (6-7) in a rare Saturday night matchup of teams technically still alive in the AFC playoff hunt.Miller’s timing can sometimes be a tad off, like it was last weekend in his foiled return to Levi’s Stadium , where his two strip sacks of Cam Newton led the Broncos past the Panthers in Super Bowl 50.Three times he was fooled by third-string quarterback Nick Mullens’ hard count, twice on San Francisco’s final possession of the first half, a 72-yard touchdown drive aided by five defensive penalties that gave the 49ers an insurmountable 20-point halftime lead.Miller was summoned to the sideline for a tongue-lashing from his coach after his third infraction, and he was just as hard on himself after the Broncos’ damaging 20-14 loss, saying his trio of flags was “just flat-out ridiculous.”This week, head coach Vance Joseph and defensive coordinator Joe Woods reiterated that Miller is too good to risk jumping offsides by trying to time the snap instead of just bursting across the line when the center snaps the ball.“At some point you’ve just got to go on the ball,” Woods said. “For him to get that many offsides, it was unnecessary.”Miller, however, said that timing his jump is a big part of his game and the underlying reason he’s been able to:—Tie Simon Fletcher’s franchise record of 103½ sacks Chuma Edoga Jersey , counting the playoffs.—Collect 13½ sacks this season, three behind league leader Aaron Donald.—And team up with Bradley Chubb to form the league’s most productive pass-rushing duo.“I mean, yeah, I was upset about it but at the end of the day, if I’ve got 97 (regular season) sacks, probably 80 of them came off of getting a great jump,” Miller said Wednesday. “So, yeah, I jumped offsides. But quarterbacks throw interceptions, too. It’s not like you tell them not to throw the ball down the field no more. It’s just part of the game.“That’s just something that I’ve worked on and I guessed wrong. Like I said after the game, I’m a gambling man. I like to gamble. Sometimes I gamble big and win … and sometimes I don’t.”With a career-best eight-game sack streak going, Miller is loath to hold back even if his coaches want him to rein in his gambling ways.“I’ve been on a great streak of really being in tune with the snap count and really being in tune with the offense for about five, six weeks now. So, I’m not going to change it up,” Miller said.Asked how often he guesses right for every time he guesses wrong, Miller cracked http://www.jetsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-trevon-wesco-jersey , “I’ve got, what, five offsides? And I’ve got, what, 13 sacks? So, I mean, that’s a pretty good ratio if you ask me.”Miller said he might have been too eager last weekend because he was one sack from tying Fletcher’s franchise record and returning to the site of his Super Bowl MVP performance.Given his flags last week, Miller’s sure Mayfield will try to draw him offsides, too.“I’m sure they’ll come in and give us a lot of hard counts. We’re playing at home, so I don’t know how effective that’ll be,” Miller said. “I mean, I’m a gambler, too, so I’m not going to do the exact same thing that I did last week. Of course, I’m going to change it up. But that’s part of my game. I never change it too much.”Hubbard said the crowd noise at Mile High Stadium will certainly give Miller an edge.“That crowd is always loud and the stadium is always rocking. So, he has that advantage Clelin Ferrell Jersey ,” Hubbard said. “But my advantage is to get off the ball fast.”Miller’s, too. It may be a little difficult to try to envision the NFL three years from now. As it is, the NFL changed significantly from 2014 to 2017. For all we know, the Browns will be Super Bowl contenders, Tom Brady will have retired, and Cam Newton will be a talk show host. Okay, maybe that last hypothetical will not happen. The league was competitive this past season. Though the Patriots took home a championship, contenders like the Falcons and Packers in the NFC posed a threat to Brady's team. The important thing that distinctly makes running backs different than any other position is that they do not last very long. Stars will be at the top of their game for a mere three or four years, and the superstars will be there for a couple years more than that. Receivers have a reputation of lasting a little bit longer, for example Brandon Marshall has been a menace to cornerbacks for quite some time. Contrarily, C.J. Spiller was at the top of his game for just two seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He now is a free agent who last played with the New Orleans Saints. Some players on this list have not matriculated into the league yet, and that is standard. It is obvious that in three years from now, there will be new stars that we've yet to see play in the NFL. Though you may not know who a couple of these incoming prospects are, I highly encourage readers to do some research on the prospects and their level of play. Here is NFL 2020: Predicting the Top 15 Best Running Backs.
But he is not alone. Whether it was Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans in the wild-card round against Kansas City earlier this postseason, or Russell Wilson against Green Bay in (2015) or Andrew Luck against the Chiefs the previous year, there have been as many playoff comebacks from at least 10 points down in the fourth quarter the past five seasons as there were the previous 26 seasons.
”What happens is instead of playing the team, they start playing the clock. Sometimes you win and sometimes you go against a bad boy like Tom Brady and you get burned,” former Colts receiver and current NFL Network analyst Reggie Wayne said. ”A lot of that falls onto the coaches. The players are going to run what the coaches call.”
Whether it’s Atlanta failing to run the ball enough late in last year’s Super Bowl that helped the Patriots rally from 28-3 down to win in overtime or Seattle’s decision to pass at the goal line instead of hand it to Marshawn Lynch back in 2015, questionable coaching decisions have contributed to some of those comebacks.
But nobody is better at exploiting those mistakes than Brady and the Patriots. He has four playoff wins in games he trailed by at least 10 points in the fourth quarter Qadree Ollison Jersey , including the ”Tuck Rule” game against Oakland in 2002. No other quarterback has led more than one such comeback in playoff history.
”There’s a great belief no matter what the circumstances, that we have enough to overcome it,” Brady said. ”I don’t think we want to try to overcome that again this year. That was pretty tough to do. Hopefully we can get a lead, play from ahead, play on our terms.”
The Patriots are comfortable when that happens. They are 6-6 in the playoffs when trailing after three quarters under Brady and coach Bill Belichick, while the rest of the NFL has a 27-140 record in that span with only Russell Wilson and Eli Manning having more than two fourth-quarter comebacks with four each.
Not that it is by design.
”That whole comeback thing is overrated Marquise Brown Jersey ,” said NFL Network analyst Willie McGinest, who won three Super Bowl titles as Brady’s teammate in New England. ”Players can’t go in and say, `Hey, we want to win this game in dramatic fashion, be down 11 with eight minutes to go and come back and have the crowd go crazy.’ You want to be in control, play a certain way and be in front. Because that changes how you play the game.”
The biggest deficit overcome to win a Super Bowl before last season was just 10 points and the Patriots were the first team to overcome a deficit that big in the second half when they did it against the Seahawks three years ago.
The only other teams to come back from 10 points down to win a Super Bowl faced those deficits early in the second quarter with New Orleans rallying against Indianapolis in 2010 and Washington against Denver in 1988.
In last year’s Super Bowl comeback, the Falcons appeared to tire and struggled to generate pressure, sending more than four pass rushers on just two of 24 pass plays in the fourth quarter.
The Jaguars also only brought more than four rushers on two of 15 fourth-quarter pass plays in the AFC title game when New England came back from 20-10 down to win 24-20.
”What teams do wrong is they go zone,” Wayne said. ”He’s going to pick zone apart all day, every day. He’s going to spread you out and they’re the best at creating mismatches.”
The 2018 NFL trade deadline came and went, and some of the top trade candidates didn't go anywhere after all these weeks of speculation and so called 'reports'.Some of these players include Pittsburgh Steelers star running back Le'Veon Bell Miles Boykin Jersey , Oakland Raiders safety Karl Joseph and Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy. But barring anything unforeseen, you can expect these players to switch uniforms in the offseason. The 2019 free agent market doesn't have as much star power as the 2018 class, which was loaded with starting quarterbacks, standout offensive linemen and game-changing wide receivers and running backs. If anything else, the 2019 free agent market is strong on the defensive side of the ball - especially when it comes to safeties and pass rushers.Of course, free agency isn't the only way teams can land superstar players to shore up their roster weaknesses. Many teams - such as the rebuilding Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders - will look to move out expensive contracts as they try to load up on draft picks and build towards the future. While the 2019 free agent market may not be all that exciting for the fans who love seeing offensive players switch teams http://www.packerscheapshoponline.com/cheap-authentic-darnell-savage-jr.-jersey , the trade market promises to be very interesting. We'll see some starting quarterbacks change teams, while some young but underachieving talents will be dealt in hopes of finding their full potential on new teams. Here, we're going to take a look at 10 star free agents who will be signing elsewhere, and 10 superstars who will get traded. We also have projections for where they'll go.
People often rush to label a player a bust as soon as their rookie year http://www.brownsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-austin-seibert-jersey , based on preconceived notions they had about a certain player before he was drafted. There are plenty of biases when draft experts or even fans begin breaking down football players coming out of college. Maybe you don't like his attitude, so you attack him every chance you get whenever he's in a down period, saying "Ah-ha! I told you he was a bust!"We also hear boos at every draft when the fans' hopeful pick doesn't get drafted by their team. We also see a fanbase erupt in cheers when their preferred selection goes to their team. Donovan McNabb was booed by Eagles fans when he was selected back in 1999, yet no Eagles quarterback enjoyed more success. Johnny Manziel on the other hand received a hero's welcome by Browns fans just two years ago and now his team is already sick of him and it looks like he'll be shipped out of Cleveland this offseason. There's simply no way of knowing how a player's career is going to pan out. Perhaps we shouldn't be so quick to rush into breaking down a pick until we have a body of work to go by. Why break your head trying to use foresight, when you have hindsight? Let the scouts and GMs worry about foresight. It's a great time to look back at the 2011 draft, as we can now see who made the right picks and how those teams that nailed their selections are now playoff teams, or even Super Bowl teams. The first two picks from 2011 are now the best players on their team and are competing against each other in Super Bowl 50. Five years marks a great time to look back and it's a great time to look back at this draft. Who used this draft as a launching pad for contention? Who whiffed and is still paying the price? How could these teams have changed their fortunes? Well Trysten Hill Jersey , we're here to see how these teams would have picked if they had a crystal ball. CHICAGO — If Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon had his druthers, his team wouldn’t have played a pair of games Tuesday.
But as the Cubs head into Wednesday’s series finale against the defending National League champion Los Angeles Dodgers, Maddon certainly won’t complain about having the opportunity to claim a series victory.
How they had to do it, however, is a different story.
Maddon expressed his displeasure with the split doubleheader format ahead of Wednesday’s matinee series finale. After Monday’s game was postponed due to the combination of inclement weather and electrical issues with Wrigley Field’s lights, Tuesday proved to be a long day for everyone involved.
“I don’t like it,” Maddon said Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. “I don’t think it’s a good idea. To be here for a noon game and then a 7 o’clock game, that’s wrong. I don’t think there’s one player, manager Tony Pollard Jersey , coach who thinks it’s a good idea.”
Maddon added: “I’m not crying. It’s just true. So it works for both sides. The Dodgers have to do the same thing. I’m not just talking about us. I’d just prefer a different method over the split doubleheader to appease when the game was rained out like it was (Monday) night.”
Maddon voiced his opinion ahead of Tuesday’s rescheduled series opener in which Cubs reliever Justin Wilson surrendered a two-out, two-run single in the ninth inning. Wilson pitched in place of closer Brandon Morrow, who was unavailable for Tuesday’s doubleheader due to back spasms. The Cubs didn’t make Morrow’s condition public until after Tuesday’s first game when Maddon said he was holding out Morrow for precautionary reasons. Morrow told reporters he considered his availability to be day-to-day.
After offense came at a premium in Tuesday’s second game, Wednesday’s showdown has all the makings of a pitcher’s duel.
Jon Lester (8-2, 2.28 ERA) takes the mound for the series finale looking to extend what has been a successful first half of the season. Lester has won four straight starts and has only allowed a pair of runs in three starts in June. Lester is 2-3 in seven career starts against the Dodgers.
The Dodgers will counter with Ross Stripling, who will take the mound with eyes set on his seventh straight victory. Stripling (6-1, 1.76 ERA) hasn’t lost since April 30 and has struck out at least six in each of his last seven starts. Over his last six starts Noah Fant Jersey , Stripling has struck out 47 and walked just two.
Stripling, who will make his first career start against the Cubs on Wednesday, has taken over the role as the Dodgers ace in the place of injured Clayton Kershaw. His strong start has made him a strong contender for a place on the National League All-Star team.
“You never know if you’ll have another chance in a six-, eight-, 10-year career to make an All-Star game,” Stripling said recently, according to the Loss Angeles Times. “I want to go out there and do my best to try and get there because it would be pretty cool.”
Piscotty belted a go-ahead Greg Little Jersey , two-run homer in the 11th inning as Oakland rallied for a 6-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday afternoon.
It was the Athletics’ 22nd comeback win of the season, six of them occurring in extra innings. The Indians carried a 3-0 lead into the eighth before reliever Neil Ramirez gave up back-to-back home runs to Lowrie — a two-run blast — and Davis to tie it.
”You can’t sleep on our offense because we can vaporize the lead really quick,” Piscotty said. ”We know that and that’s why we keep grinding and keep playing.”
Matt Chapman, who had a career-high four hits and stole his first base in the majors, scored later in the frame on Jonathan Lucroy’s grounder to make a winner out of A’s closer Blake Treinen (5-1).
Nine of Oakland’s last 19 victories have occurred via runs in the eighth inning or later, including its last two. The A’s scored twice in the eighth Wednesday to beat San Diego 4-2.
”Just knowing that we’re not out of the game, no matter how late it is, definitely builds confidence,” said Davis, who has a team-high 21 homers. ”We’ll just keep learning from them and hold onto the momentum.”
Cleveland had its home winning streak snapped at eight and fell to 1-6 in extra-inning contests. Josh Tomlin (0-5) Will Grier Jersey , the Indians’ sixth pitcher, allowed all three runs after entering to start the 11th.
Right-hander Corey Kluber tossed seven shutout innings, but was denied in his bid to become the first Indians pitcher with 13 wins before the All-Star break since Hall of Famer Gaylord Perry had 15 in 1974.
The two-time AL Cy Young winner allowed only one runner to reach third base, scattering five hits and striking out three before exiting after 102 pitches. Kluber is 7-1 with a 1.43 ERA at Progressive Field this season.
”Even though we didn’t beat him, to get a win with a guy like Kluber on the mound to start, that might be worth two for us,” Lowrie said. ”It never seems like we’re out of a game.”
Oakland righty Edwin Jackson went 5 2/3 innings in his third big league start of the year, allowing single runs in the first, second and sixth. Ryan Buchter, Lou Trevino and Treinen combined to blank Cleveland the rest of the way.
Ramirez hadn’t allowed a run in his previous 17 appearances Christian Miller Jersey , but manager Terry Francona didn’t second-guess his decision to pull his ace.
”Corey is such a good pitcher and he’s smart, and he gave us seven really good innings,” Francona said. ”We lean on him so hard, I thought we’d go to Neil. And it didn’t work. Neil has been good, but today, not so much.”
Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor scored his major league-leading 79th run and had an RBI, while Greg Allen doubled home Yan Gomes. Lindor committed the error that scored Chapman with the game’s final run.
The Indians played the final three innings without a designated hitter after Francona made a flurry of strategic moves that forced RHP Zach McAllister into the batting order. The former Phillies skipper also pulled off a rare AL double-switch in the 11th to avoid having Tomlin bat.
”We didn’t want to play a National League game for obvious reasons,” Francona said. ”I didn’t want to do it, but I thought that was our best way to win.”
Athletics: OF Matt Joyce (lumbar strain) was placed on the 10-day disabled list. He missed 15 games in June with the same ailment. OF Nick Martini was recalled from Triple-A Nashville, where he has a 65-game on-base streak.
Indians: OF Lonnie Chisenhall (left calf strain) Jordan Scarlett Jersey , who was hurt Monday in Kansas City, will travel to Washington for a second opinion on his oft-injured lower legs. This marks his third DL stint with calf problems in a calendar year.
Athletics LHP Brett Anderson (0-2, 7.63 ERA) will be activated to face Indians RHP Shane Bieber (4-0, 2.97 ERA) in the three-game series finale. Anderson has not pitched for Oakland since May 18 because of a strained right shoulder.
In her bid for governor of Tennessee, Republican Rep. Diane Black will run an ad during the Super Bowl pregame show saying ”it’s too bad that the league doesn’t respect the patriotism of our national anthem.”
Black’s campaign spokesman, Chris Hartline, said Thursday that the ad urging fans to stand will run on one network in several Tennessee markets at a cost of more than $50,000. Some will see it right before kickoff, he said.
It’s a response to the NFL’s refusal to run an ad from the group American Veterans saying ”Please Stand” in the printed Super Bowl program.
The league has been roiled by debate over players kneeling during the anthem to protest social injustice, but NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the game program is not the place for messages that could be seen as political. McCarthy noted that the NFL approved a Veterans of Foreign Wars ad saying ”We Stand for Veterans.”
In her spot David Montgomery Jersey , Black says that though the NFL refused the AMVETS ad urging everyone to stand, ”they can’t stop you and me.”
”So tonight, wherever you are watching this game, please stand for `The Star-Spangled Banner’ and join me in standing up for veterans,” Black, a Gallatin lawmaker, said in the ad.
She’s not the only Republican candidate in Tennessee to use ad time to voice support for standing for the anthem, a call that has particularly rallied the Republican base. President Donald Trump mentioned it in his State of the Union speech.
Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who is running to replace retiring Republican Sen. Bob Corker, bought radio time for an ad that says she stands ”for veterans Riley Ridley Jersey , the president and `The Star-Spangled Banner.”’
Blackburn faces former Republican Rep. Stephen Fincher in the GOP primary, and that winner likely will face former Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen in the general election.
Black is the third Republican candidate to secure TV ad time in the open Tennessee race to replace Republican Gov. Bill Haslam, who is hitting term limits.
In a $300,000 buy this week, Knoxville businessman Randy Boyd’s ad says he’s against abortion, thinks Tennesseans should work and not remain on welfare and says immigrant-protecting ”sanctuary cities” are illegal.
An ad released by Franklin businessman Bill Lee last week discusses the death of his first wife and his leadership role in his construction company.
State House Speaker Beth Harwell, R-Nashville, rounds out the governor’s race field of major Republicans.
Former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean and state House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh of Ripley are running on the Democratic side.
Toronto Blue Jays end a record stretch of futility against left-handed pitchers.
Solarte hit two home runs Will Grier Jersey , Devon Travis also connected and the Blue Jays beat the Washington Nationals 6-5 on Friday night, their fifth straight home victory.
Washington has lost five of seven on the road.
Justin Smoak broke a 3-3 tie with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and Solarte, batting left-handed, followed with a two-run shot off right-hander Justin Miller. Solarte was batting right-handed when he homered in Toronto’s three-run third, a solo blast off left-hander Gio Gonzalez (6-3).
”I was lucky enough that I had good opportunities and we took advantage of it,” Solarte said.
The victory snapped Toronto’s team-worst 11-game losing streak against lefty starting pitchers.
”We’re better than that,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. ”That shouldn’t happen like that.”
Solarte is the ninth player in Blue Jays history to homer from both sides of the plate. The last to do it was Kendrys Morales against Oakland on July 27, 2017. The homers were Solarte’s 13th and 14th of the season, extending his team lead and coming a year after his career high of 18.
It’s the second time Solarte has achieved the feat, having done it also against Arizona on May 27, 2016 while with the San Diego Padres.
Travis hit a two-run home run in the third, his third.
Seunghwan Oh (2-2) pitched one inning for the win and Ryan Tepera stranded the potential tying run at third base in the ninth to earn his fourth save in seven opportunities.
Wilmer Difo hit a leadoff single in the ninth, then stole second and advanced on a fly ball. Tepera escaped by getting Adam Eaton to ground out and striking out Trea Turner.
Gonzalez allowed season-worsts of five runs and nine hits in six-plus innings. The left-hander has allowed four or more earned runs in consecutive outings.
Travis singled to begin the seventh and Teoscar Hernandez followed with a fly ball that right fielder Eaton lost in the twilight.
”I had it off the bat but as soon as it goes up, it’s a pretty helpless feeling,” Eaton said.
After the ball dropped for a ground-rule double, Miller came on and surrendered Smoak’s sacrifice fly and Solarte’s two-run blast.
”We had one fly ball that we didn’t see that kind of changed things real quick,” Washington manager Dave Martinez said.
The homer was the first earned run allowed by Miller in nine appearances this season.
”I was trying to throw a fastball away and it just kind of cut on me,” Miller said. ”Hats off to him, he hit a good pitch.”
Aaron Sanchez allowed three runs and six hits in six innings for Toronto.
The Blue Jays have hit an ML-leading six home runs on 3-0 counts this season. No other team had more than two entering play Friday.
FIRST OF THE SEASON
Washington’s Daniel Murphy singled in the eighth, snapping a 0-for-10 stretch since he returned from right knee surgery Tuesday.
Nationals: 1B Matt Adams took a pitch off his left hand while squaring to bunt in the second. Mark Reynolds replaced Adams on defense an inning later. ”I knew from the get-go it was bad,” Adams said. He is day to day. Murphy will DH against the Blue Jays this weekend and return to the infield Monday when Washington returns home to face the Yankees.
Blue Jays: One week after he became eligible to be activated off the disabled list Jordan Scarlett Jersey , 3B Josh Donaldson (left calf) has yet to run at full speed. Donaldson may play at least one minor league rehab game with Triple-A Buffalo before rejoining the Blue Jays. … RHP Marcus Stroman (shoulder) will make a second rehab start Monday, this time at Double-A New Hampshire. Stroman pitched 4 1/3 innings at Class-A Dunedin Wednesday. … OF Steve Pearce (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Buffalo Saturday. Pearce has not played since May 3. … RHP Deck McGuire was claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers.
Nationals RHP Max Scherzer (10-2, 2.00) faces Blue Jays RHP Marco Estrads (3-6, 5.09). Scherzer is 4-1 with a 2.15 ERA in eight career starts against Toronto. His June 10 loss against San Francisco snapped a streak of nine straight winning decisions. Estrada beat Baltimore on June 10, ending an eight-start winless stretch.
Aaron Hicks hit three home runs and the New York Yankees pummeled David Price again, connecting five times in the first four innings Sunday night on the way to an 11-1 rout of the Boston Red Sox.
Luis Severino became the first 13-game winner in the majors, cruising through 6 2/3 shutout innings of two-hit ball after the Bronx Bombers quickly built him a big cushion. With the teams trading blowouts all weekend, the Yankees (54-27) took two of three from their longtime rivals to regain baseball’s best record and first place in the AL East.
Batting leadoff against a left-hander, Hicks homered twice from the right side of the plate and once from the left. He smacked a two-run shot to right field in the second inning and a solo drive to center in the fourth that chased Price (9-6) and made it 8-0.
Hicks pulled his 14th of the season into the right-field stands in the eighth off Hector Velazquez. It was the first three-homer game by a Yankees player since Alex Rodriguez, part of the ESPN broadcast team Sunday night, accomplished the feat at Minnesota in July 2015.
CHICAGO (AP) – Jon Lester hit a three-run homer in an eight-run second inning and wound up with his NL-leading 11th victory.
Ian Happ also homered for the Cubs. They have scored at least 10 runs in four straight games for the first time since 1930. Chicago swept the three-game series and has won four in a row overall.
Lester (11-2) allowed four runs, two of them earned, and nine hits in five-plus innings.

Brian Dozier hit a two-run homer and Jake Cave also homered for the Twins.
RAYS 3, ASTROS 2.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Blake Snell struck out 10, reliever Diego Castillo fanned Jose Altuve in a key spot and Tampa Bay beat Houston to end a homestand.
The Rays went 8-1 at Tropicana Field, taking three of four from the World Series champion Astros, sweeping three from the New York Yankees and winning both games against Washington. Tampa Bay set a team record by allowing no more than two runs in its sixth straight game.
Matt Duffy hit a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning that put the Rays ahead 2-1 and Mallex Smith homered in the eighth. Evan Gattis homered twice for Houston.
Snell (11-4) allowed one run and four hits in 7 1/3 innings.
Charlie Morton (10-2) struck out 11 in 6 2/3 innings.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Matt Kemp had three hits and drove in four runs, including a go-ahead homer leading off the eighth inning that rallied Los Angeles past Colorado to prevent a sweep.
Kemp sent his 14th homer of the season over the center-field wall off Adam Ottavino (4-2) to put Los Angeles ahead 5-4. It was the Dodgers’ first homer of July after they hit a major league-leading and franchise-record 55 in June.
One out later, Yasiel Puig doubled and Joc Pederson followed and reached on an infield single to second. Puig ran hard into third and hopped back and forth before taking off for the plate, sliding belly first. He got up and swung his arms in wild celebration with the Dodgers ahead 6-4.
Kemp drove in the Dodgers’ first three runs with an RBI groundout in the first, a double in the third and a single in the fifth.
Daniel Hudson (3-2) went one inning. Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth for his 22nd save.
Nolan Arenado hit his 21st homer and had an RBI grounder for the Rockies.
GIANTS 9, DIAMONDBACKS 6
PHOENIX (AP) – Brandon Belt and Joe Panik drove in two runs each and Hunter Pence had a pinch-hit, two-run double, leading San Francisco to a series sweep against Arizona.
The Giants had 11 hits in the first five innings and cruised to their seventh win in eight games.
A four-run fifth inning highlighted by Pence’s double off reliever Silvino Bracho gave the Giants an 8-3 lead. Cory Gearrin (1-1) got one out in the fourth to earn the win in relief of starter Derek Holland.
The Giants tagged Diamondbacks starter Zack Godley (9-6) for seven runs on nine hits in four-plus innings, ending his four-game winning streak.
Arizona rallied with two runs in the seventh on Paul Goldschmidt’s 18th home run of the season, and Jarrod Dyson became the eighth player in team history to record at least two hits, two runs batted in and two stolen bases in a single game. The Diamondbacks brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth with two outs Ben Powers Jersey , but Will Smith struck out Jake Lamb for Smith’s second save.
ORIOLES 8, ANGELS 2
BALTIMORE (AP) – Manny Machado and Mark Trumbo hit consecutive homers after the Angels lost a popup in the sun, and Baltimore beat Los Angeles to end a seven-game losing streak.
After the Orioles took charge with a six-run fourth inning, Trumbo homered again in the fifth and Trey Mancini also connected to help Baltimore secure its only victory during a seven-game homestand that began with four straight losses to Seattle. The Orioles improved to 1-15 against the AL West and won at home for only the second time in 19 games since May 13.
Kevin Gausman (4-6) weathered temperatures in the upper 90s to go eight innings, allowing two runs and six hits to end a run of eight straight winless starts.
Kole Calhoun homered and Albert Pujols drove in a run for the Angels.
Michelle Gisin to win the last women’s World Cup Alpine combined event of the season on Sunday Shareef Miller Jersey , while Wendy Holdener took the season-long title in the discipline.
Ranked fifth after the super-G portion, Italian GS and super-G specialist Brignone surpassed expectations by posting the third-fastest time in the slalom leg. Her run was just enough to deny Gisin another victory, 10 days after the Swiss skier won Alpine combined gold at the Pyeongchang Olympics.
”It’s steep and I love that,” Brignone said about the Mont Lachaux course. ”I love this snow, the spring snow, for slalom.”
It was Brignone’s third win of the season, raising her career total to eight. The Italian overcame persistent adductor problems, which forced her to return early from a preseason training camp in South America and to sit out the start of the World Cup season.
”I just want to finish my season in the best way,” Brignone said. ”For sure the beginning was hard because of my injuries. I just wanted to recover and show good races.”
She certainly showed her strength Sunday, finishing in an aggregate time of 1 minute, 46.46 seconds and beating Gisin by 0.03 seconds. Petra Vlhova of Slovakia trailed by 0.09 in third place. Sofia Goggia of Italy, who led after the super-G run, dropped to eighth.
Holdener, who won the only other combined event this season, finished fourth to secure the season title in the discipline. The Swiss skier also won the globe for the season’s best combined skier in 2016.
”It’s extremely nice to win another crystal globe,” the Swiss skier said. ”I knew I didn’t have to win this race. That made it difficult for me. I wasn’t as relaxed as usual. I gave my best. It wasn’t the best skiing but I am happy that it was enough.”
Shiffrin, who won silver in Alpine combined at Pyeonchang to add to her gold from the GS, didn’t race this weekend to prepare for next week’s technical races in Germany. Also, American teammate Lindsey Vonn skipped the events in the heart of the Swiss Alps as she will only compete again at the World Cup finals in Sweden in two weeks’ time.
While there is still a mathematical possibility to overtake Shiffrin, Holdener said ”there is no chance” that she will dethrone the reigning overall champion.
”I just hope to defend my place,” she said. ”I am second and it would be nice if it stays that way.”
When Yu Darvish met with Theo Epstein and other Chicago Cubs officials last December in the Dallas area, the Japanese pitcher liked what he heard.
”The Cubs really stood out, and everyone was sincere at the meeting,” Darvish said Tuesday through a translator after finalizing a $126 million, six-year contract.
Darvish gets $25 million this year, $20 million in 2019, $22 million in each of the following two seasons, $19 million in 2022 and $18 million in 2023. He can opt out of the deal after the 2019 season and become a free agent again.
His approval is needed for any trade through 2019. After that, he can list 12 teams he cannot be dealt to without his consent.
”Yu was our primary target,” said Epstein, the Cubs’ president of baseball operations. ”It’s a great day for the Cubs organization to welcome a pitcher of this caliber. He is probably the pre-eminent strikeout pitcher of our generation. We are getting him at a wonderful point in his career where he has matured and is ready to go out and do some special things, with the World Series being his top priority.”
A four-time All-Star, Darvish finished last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, helping them knock out the defending champion Cubs in the playoffs to reach the World Series. The 31-year-old Japanese right-hander is expected to take the rotation spot of Jake Arrieta, who became a free agent.
Notre Dame’s president ripped the NCAA’s decision to deny the school’s appeal to restore 21 vacated football victories from an academic misconduct violation, saying the association ”perverted” the notion that universities determine how they police academics.
The NCAA denied Notre Dame’s appeal Tuesday, wiping off the books all 12 wins from the Fighting Irish’s 2012 national championship game run under coach Brian Kelly.
In a letter to Notre Dame alumni, University President Fr. John Jenkins says the penalty was unprecedented considering who was involved in the misconduct, and the school was being punished for rigorously enforcing its honor code. He called the ruling unfair, referencing the recent North Carolina case in which the NCAA did not punish the school after an investigation of athletes taking irregular courses.
The appeals committee was not swayed and upheld the penalty passed down in November 2016 by the committee on infractions.
Notre Dame agreed to accept certain NCAA findings and acknowledged cheating involving several football players and a student athletic trainer, but appealed only the penalty that vacated victories.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Frank Reich did some of his most memorable work in relief.
He engineered the biggest comeback in NFL playoff history while pinch-hitting for Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly. He orchestrated the second-largest comeback in college football history after spending three years as Boomer Esiason’s understudy. Heck, he even won a Super Bowl with a backup quarterback.
So when the Indianapolis Colts offered Reich a chance to be their second choice as head coach Devin Bush Jersey , the super sub figured it was the perfect it.
”The backup role has suited me well in my career,” Reich joked at his introductory news conference at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Reich inherits a team that went 4-12 in 2017, missed the playoffs for the third straight year and was desperately trying to remove an embarrassing stain following last week’s announcement that New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would not take the Colts’ job.
This time, team owner Jim Irsay made sure the Colts weren’t caught off-guard again. Shortly after team officials confirmed the deal, the team posted a photo on Twitter of Reich signing a five-year deal at Irsay’s house.
WESTMINSTER DOG SHOW
NEW YORK (AP) – Flynn the bichon frise won best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club, a choice that seemed to surprise almost everyone in the crowd at Madison Square Garden.
Fans who had been loudly shouting for their favorites fell into stunned silence when judge Betty-Anne Stenmark announced her decision.
No matter, the white powder puff was picked and walked off as America’s top dog.
Guided by expert handler Bill McFadden, Flynn beat out Ty the giant schnauzer, Biggie the pug, Bean the Sussex spaniel, Lucy the borzoi, Slick the border collie and Winston the Norfolk terrier.
”It feels a little unreal,” McFadden said. ”I came in expecting nothing except hoping for a good performance, and I think I got it.”
Underdogs and upsets are way more than norm on the green carpet of the Garden – inside dog fanciers indeed fancied Flynn, but the people sitting in the stands were obviously pulling for other dogs.
Ty came into this competition as the nation’s No. 1 show dog last year and finished as the runner-up. He endeared himself to the crowd by jumping up and putting his front paws around handler Katie Bernardin after winning the working group earlier in the evening. Slick and Lucy also drew applause.
When it comes to the NFL Draft Chris Lindstrom Jersey , fans, pundits and players can really only think about the positive side. draftee can change the dynamic of their franchise. They almost never think about the possible repercussions of selecting these players.Every Super Bowl Championship team throughout history has mainly been built through the draft. Teams don't rely on expensive free agent signings or blockbuster trades to build up a Super Bowl roster. This isn't Major League Baseball or the National Basketball Association - where you can throw money around, land a bunch of superstars in short time - and thus win a championship right off the bat.Take a look at the best NFL teams throughout the past 20 or so years. The Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens have put a strong emphasis on the draft, finding great talent in every round - and loading up on all the selections they can get via trades. On the flip side, take a look at some of the absolute worst NFL teams in the past 20 years. The Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders all come to mind http://www.lionsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jahlani-tavai-jersey , and it comes down to these teams simply wasting so many high draft picks throughout the years. Here, we take a look at 10 of the worst draft day moves in NFL history, and what teams should have done instead. From trading down (or up), to simply making the wrong selection, there have been many terrible moves that have changed the NFL landscape forever. This is how those 10 draft mistakes should have gone down.*Stats courtesy of Football Reference* The National Football League playoffs have developed a reputation over the years as the most exciting, riveting, and dramatic playoffs in all of professional sport. The one-game showdowns that usually pit division foes or bitter rivals against one another in a sixty-minute showdown creates an unparalleled entertainment experience that is second to none.Of course, when watching an NFL playoff game, fans and media members alike are hoping for a well-played tilt between the players - as in Kyler Murray Jersey , only between the players. Far too often, though, NFL playoff games have been marred by controversial decisions by the men in the zebra-colors: the dreaded (and mostly hated) referees. It's hard to expect referees to be flawless throughout any game, no matter what sport they officiate - they are human, after all - and even with the increase in video replay across the board, there are still plenty of rules and plays that can't be reviewed, leaving the ruling and judgement solely up to the discretion of the head official. While they get it right for the most part, there have been times where they've gotten it wrong - and at the worst possible times, too. Some might side with the analogy that the officials are like the guy who gets cast in a play http://www.arizonacardinalsteamonline.com/byron-murphy-jersey , but is surprised to find out that the lead role was given to someone else, while he is slotted into a meaningless bit part with no line. He feels betrayed, miscast, and undervalued, so to make sure that his true talent shines through he enters stage left when he's not supposed to and starts improvising, capturing all the attention he desperately wanted - but for all the wrong reasons. It might seem harsh to compare an official to that guy - most officials are excellent and do a fine job - but sometimes, they make calls that leave us perplexed and shocked...or extremely outraged, if they happen to make the call against your team.
Nobody got hurt in the fire, which was extinguished by an automatic sprinkler system, and damage was minimal, according to the team.
If only it were that simple to fix the product on the field.
With the Mets sinking fast toward the bottom of the National League standings, baseball operations were turned over Tuesday to a trio of Sandy Alderson’s assistants as the 70-year-old general manager made the stunning announcement that he was stepping down because his cancer has returned.
John Ricco, J.P. Ricciardi and Omar Minaya have decades of front office experience between them, both in New York and elsewhere around the majors. But it might take all three to clean up this mess, and time is of the essence.
”We’re well below our expectations, from ownership on down,” chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon said. ”Talk to the baseball department, talk to the scouting department, talk to the development department, coaches, the players – nobody expected to be in this position.”
Alderson’s indefinite leave of absence comes at a critical juncture for the languishing Mets (32-46) ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.
Needing to accrue young talent, they’ll probably try to sell off pending free agents such as shaky closer Jeurys Familia and switch-hitting second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera for whatever they can get.
But ace pitchers Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard could fetch an enormous return, and the club must decide whether to undertake such a sweeping overhaul at this stage – without a general manager in place.
”We’re going to talk about that. We just kind of got into this,” Ricco told reporters Wednesday. ”For me, everything has to be on the table. But you’ve got to look long and hard before you move a game-changing Maxx Crosby Jersey , top-of-the-rotation pitcher.”
Even with last season’s 70-92 finish in mind, Ricco didn’t sound as though a total tear-down was likely. At least not yet.
So how do the aging Mets, not even two years removed from consecutive playoff appearances, re-energize their injury-prone team and turn it around?
The offense is stagnant. The defense is deplorable at times. The bullpen has been horrendous since New York’s 12-2 start and requires a complete rebuild next year.
Due in large part to leg injuries and a hip problem that Alderson called ”somewhat chronic,” slugger Yoenis Cespedes has played in less than half of the Mets’ games since signing a $110 million, four-year contract in November 2016. He has a no-trade clause and almost certainly isn’t going anywhere. New York needs to figure out how to get him back in the lineup.
Banged-up right fielder Jay Bruce, also in his 30s and sidelined by a hip injury, is batting .212 with three home runs, 17 RBIs and a paltry .613 OPS in the first season of a $39 million, three-year deal.
Touted prospects Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith have flopped at the plate so far.
”That’s what we’ve been charged with: improving this club,” Ricco said. ”Obviously, the trade deadline is coming up and that’s a big pressure point in which to better your club, and certainly we are going to take advantage of that and look to be active.”
Syndergaard, like several Mets stars, is on the disabled list again with a strained ligament in his index finger but could be back next month. The 25-year-old right-hander can’t become a free agent until after the 2021 season.
As for deGrom, he just turned 30 and leads the majors with a 1.69 ERA going into Friday night’s scheduled start at last-place Miami. Still a salary bargain relative to his brilliant performance, deGrom is under club control through the 2020 season.
Both pitchers were instrumental in leading New York to the 2015 World Series.
”We know what we have in those two,” Alderson said last week. ”At the same time, you never say never.”
In the end Hakeem Butler Jersey , maybe the Mets will choose instead to shop mid-rotation starters Zack Wheeler and Steven Matz. Both are fully healthy for the first time in years, and their stuff looks crisp.
Of course, New York could simply wait until the winter to settle on a strategy – perhaps after a new GM has been hired.
Regardless of what happens over the next few months, it appears the team plans to conduct a search that includes external candidates at the end of the season.
That also might affect the status of first-year manager Mickey Callaway, hired by Alderson last fall.
So many questions. No easy answers.
Alderson said his prognosis is good but he doesn’t expect to be back on the job at any point, partly because his health is uncertain but also because he’s not sure it would be ”warranted.”
Whoever winds up in charge, if they keep deGrom and Syndergaard, the Mets maintain at least the foundation of a potentially competitive squad for the next two years, provided Cespedes and some other key pieces finally manage to stay healthy.
But the team might also be bypassing an opportunity to trade deGrom at peak value, running the risk that he or Syndergaard will get seriously injured before those chips are cashed.
And then there’s this tricky little complication: One of the October contenders in hot pursuit of top-notch starting pitching is the New York Yankees.
With a stocked farm system, they could be a perfect trade partner for the Mets – a buzzy topic that’s generated plenty of fodder for sports-talk radio in New York.
This time, the short porch at Yankee Stadium ended up hurting the home team.
Even with one of baseball’s tallest players posted at the wall.
Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning that nicked the glove of a leaping Aaron Judge in right field, and the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Yankees 5-3 on Monday in a matchup between the top teams in each league entering the night.
”It should give us a lot of confidence,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. ”It’s good for our young guys that come into a place like this against a team like this, as good as they are, and play well.”
Johan Camargo homered early and Jesse Biddle pitched out of a late jam for the NL East leaders, who followed up a three-game sweep in St. Louis with their fourth consecutive victory. Atlanta (49-34) is 15 games over .500 for the first time since the conclusion of the 2013 season.
New York (54-28) fell a game behind first-place Boston in the AL East.
The 20-year-old Acuna also doubled and drove in three runs, four years to the day after the touted rookie signed with the Braves.
”First time here at Yankee Stadium,” he said through a translator. ”First home run at Yankee Stadium is very special to me.”
Judge hit his 23rd homer and second in two nights. Gleyber Torres had three hits and scored twice Chris Lindstrom Jersey , but the rookie second baseman’s 10th error since he was called up April 22 helped Atlanta get started in the 11th.
Playing on the outfield grass, Torres booted Nick Markakis‘ leadoff grounder. One out later, Acuna lofted a 1-2 pitch from David Robertson (5-3) the other way. Judge, all 6-foot-7 of him, got in good position at the auxiliary scoreboard and jumped, but the ball glanced off the tip of his webbing and cleared the fence.
”Tough play. I want to make that play for D-Rob and I wasn’t able to come through,” Judge said. ”That’s all it is, just a little timing. If I time it up right I make that play. On that one, I was just a little late.”
Robertson slumped near the mound as an excited Acuna circled the bases with his seventh home run – third in the past six games.
”Man, when he hit it I thought it was an out, to be honest with you,” Robertson said. ”Playing here at Yankee Stadium, you see it happen all the time. The short porch gets you in right field.”
Robertson had faced 182 right-handed batters without giving up a home run since Adam Rosales connected off him on June 25, 2017.
A.J. Minter got three outs for his fourth save .
”He’s got a save in Wrigley Field and Yankee Stadium. I mean, that’s pretty good for a first-year reliever,” Snitker said. ”And you can tell, he’s liking that situation, too. He doesn’t back down. He’s got a lot of confidence in himself.”
New York stranded 12 and went a season-worst 0 for 12 with runners in scoring position.
The Yankees had the bases loaded with one out in the 10th before Biddle (2-0) struck out Greg Bird and Austin Romine on seven pitches. The left-hander fanned four in two scoreless innings.
Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the ninth for the Yankees, hitting a season-high 104 mph on the stadium radar gun to oohs and aahs from the crowd of 43,792. Dellin Betances retired slugger Freddie Freeman with runners at the corners to end the 10th.
Judge hit a pop-fly homer to right in the first and has gone deep in four of his last six games. Camargo answered with a leadoff shot in the third against rookie starter Jonathan Loaisiga, who was sent to the minors after the game.
Braves right-hander Anibal Sanchez allowed three runs in six innings.
Loaisiga was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to open a spot for RHP A.J. Cole (neck strain), who will be reinstated from the disabled list Tuesday. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said there’s a good chance Loaisiga will return next Monday to start in a doubleheader at Baltimore.
ALL IN THE FAMILY
With the international signing period open, the Yankees landed the younger brother of ace pitcher Luis Severino. Rafael Severino is a 19-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic who will start out at the club’s academy there.
”Yippee. Sign me up for that,” Boone said. ”Definitely good to have another Severino in the mix.”
The elder Severino, who is 13-2 with a 1.98 ERA, leads the majors in wins and the AL in ERA. He said he was excited, and happily delivered the news to his kid brother.
”He was flipping out. He didn’t believe it,” Luis Severino told reporters . ”I think he’s going to be really good.”
Braves: Reliever Peter Moylan was placed on the 10-day DL with a strained right forearm and RHP Matt Wisler was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett. OF Michael Reed and RHP Evan Phillips were called up from Triple-A. … Arodys Vizcaino (right shoulder inflammation) threw a bullpen and could come off the disabled list Tuesday. Vizcaino, who has 15 saves, has been sidelined since June 21.
Yankees: RHP Masahiro Tanaka (two strained hamstrings) threw a bullpen and is scheduled to make a rehab start Wednesday at Triple-A. He could rejoin the team early next week in Baltimore – perhaps in time to pitch in the doubleheader. … As a precaution, Romine (left hamstring) was out of the starting lineup for the second consecutive night. He entered at catcher in the ninth. Romine will likely start one of the next two games, Boone said.
Braves and New York Yankees through two games at sweltering Yankee Stadium D.K. Metcalf Jersey , it is a matter of inches for fly balls hit to right field and right-center field.
Heading into Wednesday afternoon’s series finale, the teams have combined to hit nine homers with both teams capitalizing on dimensions to right and right-center.
On Monday, Aaron Judge made a half-swing and golfed a first-inning homer off Anibal Sanchez down the right-field line, where it is 314 feet, but the Braves wound up getting a 5-3 victory by also capitalizing on the dimensions. Rookie Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a two-run homer in the 11th off David Robertson over Judge’s leaping attempt and into the front row of the right-center field seats.
A night later, both teams capitalized again as the Yankees evened the series with an 8-5 victory.
Aaron Hicks homered down the right-field line in the first inning off left-hander Sean Newcomb and Giancarlo Stanton homered just inside the right-field foul pole in the eighth off Evan Phillips.
“Balls get kind of sucked up out there so that’s just frustrating,” Newcomb said after pitching a season-low 2 1/3 innings.
Stanton was also involved in two straight plays in right-center in the seventh. First, he appeared shaken up after crashing into the wall in an attempt to catch Nick Markakis’ 364-foot two-run homer off Adam Warren but he stayed in to make a leaping catch on Kurt Suzuki’s 360-foot fly ball.
“You just never know here with fly balls that are homers,” Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said.
Still, with both teams benefiting and getting burned by the dimensions, the first two games have been tight ballgames decided in the late innings. The teams have combined for 21 runs and 38 hits in a combined seven hours, 39 minutes while playing in humid conditions.
“We’re obviously capable of those nights where we have a big night and can run away from a team, but we’ve seen time and time again that we can scratch and claw our way,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “I think the one thing about this club that they’ve shown through the first 80-plus games is that we’ve shown an ability to win games in a lot of different ways.”
After neither team received a lengthy start and Atlanta will hope for some distance from Julio Teheran while New York is seeking the same from CC Sabathia.
Regardless of how long their starters go, both teams will have different situations with their closers.
Atlanta’s Arodys Vizcaino is expected to be available for a save situation after being activated off the disabled list Tuesday. He experienced shoulder discomfort after pitching four times in a span of five days from June 13-17, resulting in two weeks on the DL.
New York’s Aroldis Chapman has pitched three straight days for the first time all season. While he has thrown 48 pitches in those outings, it would seem unlikely the Yankees would use him for a save situation Wednesday.
Sabathia will continue his climb up various leaderboards. Sabathia is getting his first chance to tie Hall of Famer Juan Marichal for 55th place on the all-time wins list with at 243.
Sabathia is 5-3 with a 3.02 ERA and is the 12th pitcher to get at least 125 wins with the Yankees. Sabathia also has 1,519 strikeouts for the Yankees and is seven away from tying Red Ruffing for fourth on the team’s all-time list.
Sabathia last pitched Friday in an 8-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox when he allowed one run and six hits in seven innings.
Sabathia is 3-1 with a 3.31 ERA in four career starts against Atlanta.
Sabathia’s start will take place before the Yankees focus on events in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-cody-barton-jersey , where Masahiro Tanaka will make a rehab start. Tanaka has been out since injuring both hamstrings running the bases June 8 against the Mets but said Monday he feels better and could have started in the majors Wednesday.
Teheran (6-5, 4.21 ERA) is making his 17th and seeking consecutive wins for the first time in nearly two months.
Teheran was 4-0 with a 2.06 ERA in six starts from April 16-May 14. He is 2-4 with a 5.12 ERA in seven outings since.
Teheran’s last two wins have been scoreless outings. He fanned 11 in six scoreless innings June 17 against San Diego but then gave up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings June 23 against Baltimore before pitching six scoreless innings Friday at St. Louis.
Teheran is making his fourth start since a brief absence because of a thumb contusion that impacted his velocity. In his last start, he walked the first two hitters but settled down and retired 15 of the next 16 hitters.
“Velocity is better,” Snitker said. “With the exception on an inning here, he’s been really, really good. His stuff has picked up.”
Teheran will be making his second career start against the Yankees. In a 20-6 loss in Atlanta on Aug. 30, 2015, he allowed eight runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings but the only Yankees he faced still on the team are Brett Gardner, Greg Bird and Didi Gregorius.
On a steamy day that proved too daunting for Angels starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs, 38-year-old Albert Pujols coolly delivered the game’s pivotal hit.
Pujols’ RBI double highlighted a five-run eighth inning, and Los Angeles beat the Orioles 6-2 Saturday to extend Baltimore’s latest losing streak to seven games.
Gametime temperature was 93, and the humidity was unforgiving. Sweating profusely, Skaggs asked out after using 79 pitches to get through five innings.
”It’s definitely one of the hottest games I’ve thrown in a long time,” Skaggs said. ”I was just tired. I told (manager Mike Scioscia) I rarely come out and say this, but I’m exhausted.”
Skaggs added: ”I probably could have gone another inning, but there was no point. My team picked me up.”
Playing their 3,000th game under Scioscia, the Angels trailed 2-1 before using three hits Gary Jennings Jr. Jersey , three walks and a hit batter to take control against the free-falling Orioles.
After Mychal Givens (0-6) issued a pair of one-out walks, Pujols tied it with his 632nd career double , a drive that handcuffed right fielder Danny Valencia. The hit tied David Ortiz for 10th place on the all-time list – and tied the game.
An intentional walk followed, and the go-ahead run scored when Chris Young hit into a force play at third base. Tanner Scott hit Martin Maldonado with a pitch to force in a run, and David Fletcher capped the uprising with a two-run single.
”It was good clutch-hitting that inning,” Scioscia said. ”I think the biggest hit there was Albert.”
The Angels lost six straight before coming to Baltimore, and now they appear to have their mojo back.
”Whenever you can grind out runs late in the game to come back and win, it’s exciting,” Fletcher said. ”It’s definitely something to give us confidence.”
Justin Anderson (2-2) pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn the win.
The Orioles’ shoddy play in the eighth inning explains why Baltimore owns the worst record in the majors. Baltimore has five losing streaks of at least six games, is 0-15 against the AL West and has lost 17 of 18 at home.
Afterward, manager Buck Showalter was straining to find the positive aspect of another dreadful defeat.
”When you only score two runs – again – you’re going to have to pitch real well, which we really did for seven innings,” he said. ”So, I’ll take that out of it.”
Baltimore’s Andrew Cashner threw 105 pitches. He gave up one run in six innings and left with the lead, but now has gone six straight starts without a victory.
Scioscia is the sixth manager in major league history to manage 3,000 games with one team.
”You don’t think about it,” Scioscia said about his longevity. ”It’s 3,000, one game at a time.”
TAKE A SEAT
Struggling Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop (.197) was given the day off, and will likely be rested Sunday before Monday’s off day. Showalter said he wanted the 2017 All-Star to ”reset.”
Angels: RHP/DH Shohei Ohtani, who has a Grade 2 sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow, batted in a simulated game Saturday and did not experience any setbacks, Scioscia said. The team hopes Ohtani can avoid Tommy John surgery. . LHP John Lamb has a torn ulnar collateral ligament and will undergo surgery in Los Angeles. . RHP Jake Jewell will be out at least six months after undergoing right ankle surgery Friday. . RHP Garrett Richards (hamstring) allowed five runs over 3 1/3 innings in a rehab start Friday with High-A Inland Empire. ”He lost some of his command as the outing went on, but physically he felt great,” Scioscia said.
Orioles: RHP Darren O’Day opted for surgery to repair a left hamstring strain, ending his season. … RHP Chris Tillman (back) was scheduled to make his third rehab start, this time with Triple-A Norfolk, on Saturday.
Angels: RHP Deck McGuire (0-0, 6.08 ERA) makes his third major league start in the series finale Sunday.
Orioles: RHP Kevin Gausman (3-6, 4.20 ERA) lost his last four decisions and has not completed seven innings in any of his last eight starts.

A look at what’s happening around the majors today:
HOT AS THE WEATHER
Evan Gattis and the World Series champion Astros have the longest active winning streak in the majors. They go for their 10th straight victory when they play at Kansas City, where temperatures are expected to approach triple digits. Houston left-hander Dallas Keuchel (3-8) pitches against Danny Duffy (3-6). Keuchel, the 2015 AL Cy Young Award winner, has allowed 13 runs over 11 innings in two June starts – raising his ERA from 3.65 to 4.45. The Royals have lost four in a row and 10 of 11.
With a franchise-record 15 players on the disabled list, the Angels try for a second consecutive victory in Oakland. Los Angeles added four more players to the DL on Friday: infielder Zack Cozart (partially dislocated right shoulder), right-hander Jim Johnson (lower back strain), right-hander Garrett Richards (strained left hamstring) and right-hander Nick Tropeano (right shoulder inflammation). Only 12 players from the opening day roster were active Friday.
Paul Goldschmidt tries to keep up his torrid pace at the plate when the Diamondbacks host the slumping Mets. Goldschmidt entered this month batting a paltry .209 after slogging his way through May Rashan Gary Jersey , when he had only 14 hits in 97 at-bats (.144). The All-Star slugger has returned to form in June with seven homers, 15 RBIs and 17 runs. In 14 games, he’s raised his batting average 56 points to .265. He homered for the second consecutive night Friday, finishing with three hits and two RBIs in a 7-3 victory. He has nine homers and 21 RBIs in his past 20 games. Meanwhile, the NL West leaders have won seven of eight and 11 of 14. The freefalling Mets have dropped four straight, 12 of 13 and 19 of 23.
Washington ace Max Scherzer has won the last two NL Cy Young Awards. The right-hander appears well on his way to a third straight – and fourth Cy Young overall – going into his start at Toronto. Scherzer (10-2, 2.00 ERA) leads the majors with 142 strikeouts in 94 2/3 innings, and he’s allowed more than five hits in a game only twice in 13 starts this season.
Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner takes the mound in Los Angeles against the rival Dodgers. Bumgarner is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in two starts this season following a two-month stay on the disabled list. He allowed six hits and four runs over 5 1/3 innings last time out vs. Miami. The 2014 World Series MVP is 15-9 with a 2.53 ERA in 29 career outings vs. the Dodgers.
Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright (2-0 Hakeem Butler Jersey , 1.21 ERA) brings the longest current shutout streak in the majors into his start at Seattle. Wright has thrown 22 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings, including back-to-back starts when he went seven innings in a win against Detroit and 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision at Baltimore. Wade Leblanc (7-3, 4.26) goes for the surprising Mariners, who are 45-25.
Orioles first baseman Chris Davis has essentially been benched in the wake of a season-long slump. Davis is batting .150 with four home runs, 15 RBIs and 86 strikeouts in 52 games. Making matters worse, he’s in the third year of a $161 million, seven-year contract. Davis hasn’t played since Monday, and there’s no telling when he will be back in the lineup. ”Chris is continuing with some things that he’s working on Chris Lindstrom Jersey ,” manager Buck Showalter said. ”When they come to me and say they think he’s ready to get back in the lineup, we’ll put him back in there. But it’s nothing imminent.” Baltimore has lost eight straight, its longest skid since July 2011. The Orioles have dropped 15 of 17 overall and 10 straight at home, scoring only 14 runs.
Rookie Walker Buehler Hakeem Butler Jersey , the Dodgers‘ top prospect, has been optioned to the minor leagues after struggling in a relief appearance.
The Dodgers had no choice in making the move since he had been activated on Thursday, when Buehler gave up five runs in one-plus inning of relief in an 11-5 loss to the Cubs. There was no indication when Buehler will next pitch or when he would be recalled to the big-league team.
Buehler originally was set to make a rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday after missing 19 days with a rib microfracture.
He flew to Oklahoma, but the plan was changed and he was immediately called back to Los Angeles. He landed Thursday morning, was activated off the DL and came on in relief of Clayton Kershaw.
Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner has no plans to restrict Cam Newton’s ability to make plays with his feet. As for the quarterback’s throwing motion Chris Lindstrom Jersey , well that might need a little tweaking.
The 65-year-old Turner said he returned to coaching because of an opportunity to work again with Panthers coach Ron Rivera – who was on his coaching staff for four seasons in San Diego – and to coach the talented group of offensive players led by Newton.
”He’s an amazing player for his position,” Turner said Tuesday on a conference call.
The versatile 6-foot-5, 245-pound Newton has carried the ball 828 times over the past seven seasons – by far the most in the league by a quarterback during that span. By comparison, Seattle’s Russell Wilson has run the ball 578 times during his six seasons in the league.
While it’s logical to question how much pounding Newton’s body can take – he turns 29 in May – it’s also hard to argue with his success.
He’s averaged 5.2 yards per carry and has scored 54 touchdowns rushing, which is the most by a QB in NFL history. And Newton tends to play better when he’s more involved in the running game.
After Newton carried the ball a career-high 139 times last season and led the Panthers in rushing with 754 yards, he said ”that’s my edge.”
”I wouldn’t expect you or anybody else to take it away,” Newton said following Carolina’s season-ending playoff loss at New Orleans. ”And when I say you, I mean the media as a whole. I’m comfortable running the football, I feel like I help the team when I’m running the football Kendall Sheffield Jersey , and as long as I’m playing this game, I’m going to run the football.”
Turner suggested that he and his son Scott Turner, the team’s new quarterbacks coach, will look to improve Newton’s throwing mechanics.
Because he’s so big Newton has a tendency to rely on his strong arm and throw off his back foot, often resulting in high throws that lead to incompletions or interceptions. Turner said that while sometimes those types of throws are necessary under pressure http://www.falconsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-john-cominsky-jersey , the staff ”is going to work hard to get his weight transferred and have good technique when he is throwing.”
Turner said the Panthers overall system won’t change much, although he wants to be able to stretch the field vertically to force defenses to cover the entire field.
He believes Newton has the arm strength to do that.
Turner said he had a brief conversation with Newton after being hired.
”We didn’t get into a lot of football,” Turner said. ”As he expressed to me – and I feel the same way – there is excitement and nervousness. When you have change there is nervousness. Sometimes that nervousness is good and it gets your attention. It’s not status quo and you use that as a time to improve.”
Yes http://www.steelerscheapauthenticstore.com/benny-snell-jr.-jersey-cheap , the megalomaniac has been the commissioner of the NFL since 2006 and each year he’s succeeded in bringing in a ton of money for the NFL. Although, each year it seems Goodell drops the ball when a new scandal arises. He’s always talking about protecting “the shield” or the integrity of the NFL, but most who have seen his actions believe he has become an embarrassment to the league.Where can we start with this hypocritical authorize figure? Some suggest he’s killing football, others believe it is already dead. His failure to punish domestic violence abusers in a consistent manner and his censorship and denial of long-term research for chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) are hallmark cards of his reign. It’s only a matter of time before Goodell crashes to the ground. We just hope the NFL doesn’t implode with him.How can a billion dollar company allow this man to keep his job is beyond us. So, if you truly hate the guy, then you’ll love this listicle. If you still think he’s the best thing for the NFL Zach Gentry Jersey , we hope we can change your mind. Theoretically, those running National Football League franchises enter every offseason looking to improve rosters for the upcoming season and, if possible, for further down the road. Obviously, things don’t always work out that way for one reason or another. Truth be told, some outside observers and fans who spend money on the team are convinced that the Cleveland Browns tanked the last two seasons to force a complete rebuild of the organization from bottom to top. The Browns are better Chris Lindstrom Jersey , on paper, than they were a year ago following this past offseason, but one cannot help but wonder if the franchise is still its own worst enemy due to keeping one person in the organization. Clubs such as the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers made offseason moves with the postseason and, perhaps, a Super Bowl berth in mind. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets are looking beyond 2018. What of the teams who made what are deemed no-so-great offseason moves as of the summer? Will those franchises prove beat reporters and fans wrong and show that they are going in the right direction http://www.falconscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-kaleb-mcgary-jersey , or are their 2018 campaigns doomed to be lost seasons? Every NFL year brings with it plenty of surprises. That will again be the case this fall, and those shocks will cause us to rethink these evaluations come next February.
Quick – when I ask you to name the NFL team you think has had the most players arrested over the last 10 years L.J. Collier Jersey , which team would you pick? If you're like a lot of people out there, you undoubtedly said the Oakland Raiders. But their reputation as a group of thugs and criminals is one that is highly overblown. In fact, the reality of the situation is that the Raiders, in terms of players arrested and just like their team this season, rank very near the bottom of the league – tied for 20th http://www.seahawksfootballauthentics.com/marquise-blair-jersey-authentic , to be precise.Over this past summer, we were inundated with the news of NFL players being arrested. It seemed like we couldn't go a single day without hearing about another football player being arrested for this or for that. And unlike in past years, it wasn't simply practice squadders or special teams scrubs feeling the wrath of the law. No, this offseason saw some of the NFL's biggest names, some of the league's biggest prime time players getting hauled in – some of them on very serious charges.Players like Ray Rice, Josh Gordon D.K. Metcalf Jersey , Justin Blackmon, Aldon Smith, Greg Hardy, Ray McDonald, and Adrian Peterson have all been arrested and charged with crimes ranging from domestic abuse to gun charges, illegal substance charges http://www.seahawksfootballauthentics.com/cody-barton-jersey-authentic , and child abuse. The NFL's image has been taking a beating over the last few months because of their handling of some of these cases – most specifically, how they've handled (or mishandled) the case or Ray Rice, the “man” who knocked his then-fiancee, now-wife clean out in an elevator at a casino in Atlantic City.Maybe it's because of the power of social media, or the reach of the regular media distorting our view, but it seems like there has been a higher than usual number of players arrested over the last year. Whether it's true or not though Gary Jennings Jr. Jersey , quite a few players have created some big problems for themselves and big headaches for their teams by doing something stupid and getting themselves arrested. So who then, are the teams that have had the most players arrested since 2000? Well read on and find out...HITE SOX 6, ATHLETICS 4, SECOND GAME
CHICAGO (AP) – Lucas Giolito (5-7) pitched into the eighth inning before Xavier Cedeno worked out of a jam, and Chicago snapped an eight-game losing streak by beating Oakland to salvage a doubleheader split.
The White Sox bounced back after getting pounded behind a pair of three-run homers by Franklin Barreto in the first game. They stopped their worst skid since a nine-game rut last July and ended Oakland’s season-high win streak at five.
Joakim Soria retired all three batters in the ninth for his 11th save in 13 opportunities. Chris Bassitt (0-3) got tagged for five runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings in the late game.
Barreto connected against James Shields (2-9) to cap a four-run second inning and off Luis Avilan in the eighth. Oakland’s Sean Manaea (7-6) went seven innings, allowing one run and five hits.
He pitched two-hit ball over eight innings and Ian Desmond homered as the Colorado Rockies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1.
Marquez (6-8) retired his first 15 batters before Enrique Hernandez connected for a home run off the left-field foul pole leading off the sixth. After a Chase Utley single Will Grier Jersey , Marquez dispatched the Dodgers on three fly balls to end the inning and pumped his right fist to emphasize the moment.
”Isn’t that great? I loved that” Rockies manager Bud Black said of the fist pump. ”He uses (his energy) with his fastball. I want him to use it with his fastball but not overthrow. There is a time you can stand on a pitch and lean on it and I think he does that.”
He appeared to do just that with his fastball in the eighth inning. Facing Hernandez two innings after the home run, Marquez struck out the Dodgers’ utility man on a 99.9 mph fastball.
”No doubt I let it rip on that one,” Marquez said through an interpreter. ”But I worked hard in my preparation in between starts and my goal is to maintain my stamina deep into games. I think today I was able to accomplish that.”
Marquez struck out nine and walked none after entering with a 5.53 ERA, third-worst among qualified National League starters.
The Rockies closed out June with three consecutive victories and two consecutive over the Dodgers after getting swept by Los Angeles in a three-game series at Coors Field to begin the month. Colorado finished June with an 11-16 record.
Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda (5-5) gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits over seven innings and lost for the first time in four June starts. He had a short stint on the disabled list during the month due to a right hip strain. He struck out nine for the second consecutive start.
”It was a good outing,” Maeda said through an interpreter. ”My desire is to be able to pitch deeper into the game and being able to pitch seven innings and is a good thing. But unfortunately, we didn’t get the win and that was something we wanted.”
Desmond went deep in the fifth for a 2-0 lead. It was his 17th home run of the season and career-best 13th on the road.
Trevor Story doubled for the Rockies in the seventh and scored on Chris Iannetta’s single to make it 3-1.
After a strong start to the month, the Dodgers finished June with a 17-9 record, losing four of their last five games.
CLOSER FOR THE DAY
Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino pitched the ninth Saturday for his second save. Closer Wade Davis, who earned the save after Tyler Anderson’s eight-inning outing Friday, was given the night off.
”He pitched great and he deserved to win,” Ottavino said of Marquez. ”That’s two games straight that we got eight innings out of our starters so we appreciate that down in the bullpen. I think everybody does on the team so I think that was just an awesome job by (Marquez).”
Davis is expected to return to the closer role Sunday.
DODGERS DRIVE 55
Hernandez’s home run gave the Dodgers 55 in the month of June, to increase their franchise record for a month. The previous record of 53 was set in June of last season.
His home run was his 14th of the season and third this week. Max Muncy and Joc Pederson each finished with 10 home runs in June. Pederson has 11 on the season.
”I worked really hard in the off season to get stronger and get in better shape,” said Hernandez Jordan Scarlett Jersey , whose previous best was 11 home runs last season. ”Last year I hit a lot of doubles and this year those doubles are turning into homers. Hopefully we can keep swinging the bats in July the way we are in June.”
Rockies: OF David Dahl (broken right foot) is out of a walking boot and will join the team Monday in Colorado to continue his rehab.
Dodgers: RHP Walker Buehler (right rib microfracture), who made one appearance this week after returning from the DL, will likely need two starts at Class A Rancho Cucamonga before he returns to the Dodgers, according to manager Dave Roberts. … RHP Pedro Baez (right biceps tendinitis) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session, but no timetable for his return has been revealed.
Rockies right-hander Chad Bettis (5-1, 5.07 ERA) will be back on the road where he excels, as his five road victories were tied for third in the National League at the start of play Saturday. Dodgers right-hander Ross Stripling (6-2, 1.98) has a loss and a no-decision in his past two starts following a six-start win streak.
Every professional football franchise has NFL Draft regrets for past decisions made or not made. Not only has each team selected players who became known as busts and who didn’t help those organizations win anything of note. Clubs also failed to draft stars and All-Pros who became steals for teams that eventually landed those individuals after casual fans stopped following those player-selection processes. While it’s still way too early David Montgomery Jersey , as of the posting of this piece, to evaluate the 2018 NFL Draft class, Ronnie Harrison, Antonio Callaway, and Tre Flowers are in contention to be seen as steals a few years down the road. The New York Giants may want Kyle Lauletta to get to such a level, but you shouldn’t hold your breath waiting for that to occur. Two of the biggest NFL Draft steals since 2000 have guided teams to multiple Super Bowl appearances while playing the most important single position in all of pro sports. One would possess a pair of rings if not for arguably the worst play call in the history of the league. The other massive steal spotlighted in this piece is viewed by many as the greatest quarterback of all-time and the best draft selection in any of the “big four” sports competitions. He could add another championship to his resume in February 2019, and he may also attempt to remain active in the league through his 45th birthday.
